Legal translation- a foray into the world of learned men

 

Translating legal materials is like walking on a tightrope because the final text not only have to reflect the source material and the writing must also be professional and articulate. Even to seasoned translators a proper dictionary is a must and that is why I am presenting the following reference materials:

Lexique de l'anglais juridique by Stefan Kettler contains the basic terms of the British legal system such as the crown prosecution service and conveyance(acte de vente ou de transmission de propriété) and ten pages of symbols and abbreviations.

F.H.S Bridge, legal dictionary from french to english is a publication of the Council of Europe and it covers the essentials of EU legal affairs. While the

Harrap's law dictionary is divided into two sections(french and english) and the french section treats the organization framework of the the final court of appeal, courts of appeal, magistrate court, agricultural, social security, commercial and employment tribunals.
