Life in France-1939-1949

There are many accounts on the living conditions of the French just after the second world war and three writers have added another material to the documentation under the title of "les français au quotidien, 1939-1949."

This is a material that chronicled the day-to-day activities of the French before the occupation of 1940, the exodus after the defeat of France and problems related to the scarcity of vital commondities in post war France. There are numerous photos to back up this fine work of research by Gauvin, Alary and Vergez-Chaignon. It's about 850 pages and the quality of the research shines with a description of the political status of Algeria and the setif demonstration. I do not think that there is an english version of les français au quotidien 1939-1940 for the moment.

The Blair Years

Over the last ten years, the Crossman diaries and the biography of the Queen were some of the publications that received favorable media coverage in the UK. And this year, for the past few days, "The Blair years, written by a former communication adviser to the prime minister is almost a compulsory reading for observers of UK affairs. For the moment, only two reviews are available on the web site of www.amazon.co.uk   and french observers are anxious to read the french version of this account of labour in power.
